Friar Fanatics, January Student Club of the Month
Friar Fanatics has been named January’s Student Club of the Month for its outstanding role in fostering school spirit and energizing campus athletics. Led by Co-Presidents Chris Roberts and Matt Reynolds, alongside Secretary Jacquie Plante, Treasurer Matt Tarpey, Directors of Social Media Bella DiPasquale, Ava Colella, and Molly Fern, Head of Men’s Basketball Teague Stanley, Head of Men’s Hockey Aidan Johnson, and Head of Women’s Basketball Emma Medina, the club serves as the bridge between the student body and Providence College Athletics.
Throughout January, during the height of NCAA Division I basketball and hockey seasons, Friar Fanatics organized themed student sections for Big East matchups at the AMP and Hockey East games at Schneider Arena. Themes such as Wear Black, White Out, and Beach helped create electric atmospheres and strengthened student engagement at both men’s and women’s games. By coordinating directly with Athletics and leading student section organization, the club sets the tone for spirited, unified support across all Division I sports.
Friar Fanatics demonstrates leadership through communication, structure, and collaboration. Running a high-impact student organization requires constant coordination with executive members, general members, Athletics staff, and the broader student body. The team has learned that leadership is less about control and more about creating systems that empower others to take ownership and contribute to the club’s success.
One ongoing challenge is sustaining strong attendance and energy beyond high-profile rivalry or nationally ranked games. Maintaining enthusiasm for midweek or less-publicized matchups requires intentional planning and creative promotion, all while balancing academics and other commitments. Looking ahead to the 2025 to 2026 academic year, Friar Fanatics aims to develop a stronger leadership pipeline, formalize internal roles to increase accountability, and strengthen collaboration with Athletics and campus partners to enhance event execution.
