There is always something to do in Friartown! Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) facilitates over 300 student events each year. This includes activities, trips, and events every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Providence College is steeped in tradition. SEAL supports the facilitation of man student traditions, ensuring students have life-long memories that connect them to our rich history and the many Friars that make up our community.
Student Events
SEAL helps students find connection and community outside of the classroom. We hosted a wide-range of events throughout the year, but some favorites include: weekly bingo in McPhail’s, game watches, skate nights in Schneider Arena, music performances, craft nights, holiday-themed festivals, and more!

The Board of Programmers (BOP) many of the events that happen on campus, in coordination with SEAL.
Student Traditions
Traditions are an important part of the Providence College experience. These student-led traditions bring together the entire campus and help to create life-long memories. Some, but not all, of the most cherished traditions that are supported by SEAL are listed below
- Black and White Ball – an annual all-class dance held at the start of the Spring semester. Started in 2016, Black and White Ball is often attended by more than half of all PC students.
- Christmas Tree Lighting – each December, students come together to make decorations, carol, and participate in the lighting of the Christmas tree is in on Slavin Lawn.
- Freshmen Class Trip to Newport – on the last day of Fall Orientation, the entire freshmen class heads to Newport to enjoy the beach, shopping, and explore one of Rhode Islands most visited towns.
- Halloween in Friartown – we get into the spooky season spirit each October with a festival that includes rides, pumpkin painting, and fall-themed activities.
- Senior Ring Weekend (SRW) – a weekend filled with celebration for the entire senior class. Students participate in a semi-formal event, a formal dance, mass, and have their class rings blessed.
- Senior Week – a week of activities that happen after finals and prior to Commencement. Students have a trip or event each day. In the past this has included: class semi-formal at Foxwoods, trip to the Red Sox, and Senior Sunset.
- Spring Concert – each spring we bring in an artist, selected by students, for an amazing concert. Recent performers include: it’s murph, Two Friends, and Zara Larsson.
